Secondary analysis quality measurement of victim support
The victim support monitor periodically measures the experiences of victims receiving judicial victim support. The first measurement shows that victims are generally positive about the support offered by the police, the Public Prosecution Service, the Judiciary and Victim Support Netherlands. However, there are also victims who have predominantly negative experiences. In order to gain more knowledge about this group of victims, the Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice commissioned Regioplan to conduct a secondary analysis on the data gathered in the victim support monitor. Subsequently, the results of the data analysis were confronted with practical experiences of seven employees of victim support desks and studied in depth.

Summary Process and efficacy evaluation Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC)
Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC) is a behavioural intervention for adolescents (12-17 years of age) with severe antisocial behaviour. One of the aims of the intervention is to decrease recidivism. It consists of intensive supervision within a foster family, in which adolescents receive social skills training.
Between 2012 and 2014, Regioplan conducted a study that was commissioned by the Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, in which the development of a group of MTFC-participants was mapped out and compared with the development of participants in a juvenile correctional institution (JJI). The central question of the study was the extent to which the intervention is effective and adds value compared to usual care in a JJI. The intention was to measure the effectiveness of the intervention in terms of reduction of criminal recidivism, within a maximum of three years after the efficacy study.

Privacy and survey research: Guaranteeing anonymity when disclosing sensitive information
Our colleague Maikel Groenewoud has given a presentation about privacy and survey research at the Amsterdam Privacy Conference 2015. The main focus of his presentation was on illustrating how the anonymity of respondents’ answers can be guaranteed when investigating sensitive topics, by using the randomized response method.
The exponential increase in data being generated and collected in modern society has caused increasing concerns about privacy issues, especially in relation to the disclosure of sensitive information. Randomized response is traditionally used in the data collection process to give respondents a guarantee of privacy. Potentially, a form of this technique can also be applied to so-called ‘big data’.

Flexibility@work 2014; tackling undeclared work (ENG)
It turns out there is a clear relation between the extent of undeclared work within a country and the type of economic policies that are implemented. This conclusion emerges from an analysis in a large number of Western countries, commissioned by Randstad.
The study shows that those economies with a small undeclared sector succeeded in reducing the supply of undeclared work, on the one hand by providing good social services and on the other hand by means of active labour market policies leading people into formal employment. By making it easier for companies to turn to temporary employment through temp agencies to meet their flexible labour demands, the demand for undeclared work also diminishes.
These findings can be read in the report Flexibility@work 2014; tackling undeclared work, published by Randstad. The report was written by Colin Williams from the University of Sheffield and Piet Renooy of Regioplan Policy Research.
